A Night To Remember – Emily’s Game

Emily, who is now 17. Kim her mom, and Family lost their husband/father in 2010 at the age of 39 to leukemia.  A couple of years later. Emily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma.  She decided to have her leg amputated so she could continue to try to play sports while also trying to limit the spread of this ugly disease.  The cancer came back into her lungs into her other leg and now there is an inoperable tumor on her hip.  I’m telling you these people are fighters though and we’re going to be there with them!!! Emily loved the game of basketball so we immediately got to work.  We connected with our buddies with the NorthStar basketball club,  Coach Danny Blackshear immediately said “we are going to make her a NorthStar”.  Mission accomplished last week,  the smile that Emily had on her face was priceless (although at the end of practice that smile was there with a big sigh).  All of the girls from the NorthStar basketball club took her in and welcomed her!  It was such an awesome experience and there is much more coming on this story as more develops. If anyone has media connections, please let me us know. Once again… This was truly amazing and I want to personally thank our Kids4Kids organization who allows us I do things like this; Coach Heywood Hunt and Coach Danny Blackshear and the NorthStar basketball club for  welcoming a new “sister”; Kim for keeping the faith and letting us be a part of her daughter’s journey; and Emily for being strong, courageous, ambitious, and now one heck of a NorthStar!!!!
